Welcome to BELhospice
The first Centre for palliative care and
palliative medicine in Serbia |
|
The Centre for palliative
care and palliative medicine, BELhospice,
is the first specialised organisation in
Serbia, which provides palliative
care to cancer patients during the last
phases of their illness. The concept of
palliative care means providing the
best possible care in the given
circumstances to both patients and
their families thus improving their quality of
their lives.
Our Mission:
* To provide palliative care to
terminally ill patients in Serbia in
accordance to standards set by the World
health Organisation (WHO)
and European Council.
* To assist the process of
education of relevant professionals as
well as of
the general public
* To promote the concept of palliative care
in Serbia and to encourage
the wider community to support our work
|
BELhospice is a non-profit
organisation and all our
services are free of charge
to both
patients and their families! |
We have established a very successful
cooperation with “Clinical Centre of
Serbia” and with Medical Centre
“Bezanijska kosa”. This collaboration
enables us to, besides education,
participate in standard hospital rounds
and thus meet the relevant patients in
person. This then helps mutual exchange
of information with resident doctors and
consequently enhance identification of
better medical treatment such as pain
management and improve organisation of
further necessary measures. We also have
created a contact network with a number
of district outpatient health centres in
Belgrade.
If you need our help or advice,
please feel free to contact us either
through your doctor at your district
health care centre, or directly at:
phone: +381 11 33 43 311 or email:
belhospice@nadlanu.com
Our work at BELhospice has been
supported by Hospices of Hope, a British
charity, as well as by donations from
both our country and abroad.
Should you be interested in learning
more about us or if you would like to

"
Pain and Palliative Medicine "

Education
in the field of
palliative medicine was
organised by the
Universities of
Florence, Lion, Belgrade

a Joint European
Project. The theoretical

and Zagreb. After
passing the final exam,
the 15 highest achieving
participants from both
cities will go to attend
a one month practical
course in Italy and
France at the end of
2008 until the beginning
of 2009.
Dr Leonida Mirilo,

St. Christopher's Hospice |
United Kingdom, May 2008. |
|

St. Christopher's Hospice in
the UK, is one of the
founders of palliative care
with more than 40 years of
experience in the field.
This hospice is organising a
multi - professional course
as part of its educational
programme. Attendants of
this course are doctors and
nurses from all around the
world.
Dr Leonida Mirilo from
BELhospice attended this
course in May 2008. This one
week course gave her the
possibility to extend her
knowledge on
hospice-palliative care. Dr
Mirilo had an excellent
opportunity to get familiar
with practical procedures in
this hospice through
visiting the day care
centre, paying home visits
with the home care teams and
through supporting families
of patients in the
bereavement period. This
course is of great value for
all of those who are
involved in caring for dying
patients.

"Blue Train" Event |
Zlatibor, 29th February 2008 |
|
On 29th February 2008,
BELhospice and Hospices of Hope
organised a joint event for guests
coming from Serbia, England, America and
Romania.
The event was a ride on Tito’s famous ‘Blue Train’. The
train journey took the guests up to the
famous Serbian mountain resort of
Zlatibor
where they spent a
day enjoying the scenery and
beauty. The weekend was an
opportunity to raise
much-needed funds for
BELhospice’s work with
terminally ill patients, but
also promoting the concept
of palliative care in Serbia
as a vital and valuable form
of care for dying cancer
patients.
