   BELhospice charity ball

Hyatt Regency

12th May 2007

On 12 May this year the first BELhospice Charity Ball was held. The Ball was organised to raise funds for palliative care services for terminally ill patients in Belgrade. This event brought together representatives of the resident diplomatic corps, Serbian government officials, and eminent representatives of the local and foreign business community as well as many friends of BELhospice. The venue was Belgrade’s Hyatt Regency Hotel’s Crystal Ballroom  and Master of Ceremony was well-known actor Marko Stojanovic. Other prominent guests who took part in the programme were: Mrs. Jadranka Jovanovic, Belgrade Opera’s singer, then Belgrade’s Academy of fine arts students and Penthouse Band from Nis. There was a raffle combined with an auction of paintings and other art objects. Famous Serbian painters donated their works for the auctions. Romanian Princess Marina Sturdza has also honoured us with her presence at the Ball. Princess Sturdza’s speech deeply moved all the guests and stressed the importance of assisting our fellow citizens in their constant battle with pain and suffering.

The funds raised have covered the costs of BELhospice’s work for several months and provided the salary of one more nurse on our staff team. As a result of this, BELhospice has been able to help more terminally ill patients.

Our dream is to build the first hospice in-patient unit in Serbia, a place were we can admit patients and provide the best possible medical care to them. This could be a good cause for our next ball in Belgrade.
