   Second BELhospice Charity Ball

Hyatt Regency

25th October 2008

BELhospice have organised the second "BELhospice Charity Ball" at the Hyatt Regency hotel on 25th of October 2008. The ball has marked the beginning of a campaign to build the first in-patient hospice in Serbia. The numerous representatives from national and international companies and guests from the health sector, political field, and public life attended the Ball.

The evening entertainment consisted of the guest appearance of the British opera singer Stuart Pendred, and two video presentations. The first video was from the Romanian hospice, "Casa Sperantei" (House of Hope). The film presented the work of hospice and palliative care and the changes this care has made to the lives of terminally ill patients. Life stories from some of the hospice patients brought out sincere emotions and left viewers in silence. The second video message was from Nemanja Vidic, football player at Manchester Utd. FC, which announced the generous donation of £25,000 from MUFC for BELhospice.
During the evening, the charity auction saw guests bidding for state of art objects, tourist arrangements, and two sports items - Novak Djokovic tennis racket that he used at the Australian Open this year, and a T-shirt signed by Ana Ivanovic. Other prices included a weekend package with Manchester Utd. FC. The final part of the evening's programme was dancing to the Vivo Band.

BELhospice used this event to introduce the concept of hospice as specialised healthcare for terminally ill patients, a place where they will get the necessary care and attention to really make a di- fference to the patients and their families. We hope that the Serbian public and all the relevant state institutions will recognise the urgent need for the existance of such specialized health care and that they will join in suppo- rting BELhospice. We would like to aknowledge all BELhospice friends, companies and supporters that have already made their contribution to this great cause.
