   Conference for nurses only

Belgrade, 17th December 2009

For the first time since the Centre for Palliative Care and Palliative Medicine began,  "BELhospice" has organized a conference for nurses only, under the title

"Palliative Care:

The Challenge for Nurses"

The conference took place on 17th of December 2009 in KBC Bezanijska Kosa’s auditorium.

Our conference gathered more than 100 nurses from various medical institutions and medical schools in Belgrade. The conference aimed to introduce nurses to modern, global concepts of Palliative Care, and to the situation in Serbia.

The conference considered palliative care as a branch of medicine, and the Strategy for Palliative Care, accepted in March 2009 by the Serbian Government. It also considered what the expectations of nurses involved in Palliative Care are. Finally, the issue of the implementation of Palliative Care in everyday clinical practice was touched on.

It was with real pleasure that the conference was able to listen to its special guest from the United Kingdom, Ms. Terry Magee RN., one of the most experienced teachers on this subject worldwide. It had been BELhospice’s privilege to have Terry Magee as an educator for our staff during 2009, passing on both her experience and her valuable knowledge.

Although last year professionals from all over the world voted for Terry Magee as ‘Educator of the Year’, Terry Magee always highlights the fact that she is first of all nurse, and is enormously proud of that. The topic of her lecture, "Terminal care is an honor and a challenge for all nurses (the experience of one nurse from all over the world)" emphasizes that fact.

All nurses interested in further education or literature regarding palliative care are welcome to call our office on +381 11 33 43 311 or you can send an email request to belhospice@nadlanu.com and we will respond as soon as possible.
