tournament "BELhospice 2009"

SC Kovilovo, 13th June 2009

BELhospice organised a huma- nitarian tournament of 5-a-side foo- tball matches to raise funds for the palliative care of cancer patients in Belgrade. The tournament was held in the Sport Centre Kovilovo on 13th June 2009 and supported by the Serbian Ministry of Health.

16 domestic and foreign companies took part in the tournament and among them were those who have recognised the huge need for palliative care in Serbia and want to continue supporting BELhospice.

The teams were divided into four groups and matches were played between the teams within each group. The best two teams from each group qualified to go into the quarterfinals. There were a total of 32 matches played during the tournament.

The winner of the BELhospice 2009 Tournament was Jugohemija United. They played great qualifying mat- ches and after a big semifinal clash with the team from the Serbian Medical Chamber, Jugohemija United got through to the final.

The final match was between Jugohemija United and Pharma- Swiss, who had previously knocked out the BELhospice team in the semifinals! Both teams played a beautiful game of football, but at the final whistle, Jugohemija proved the better side and won 2-0 with PharmaSwiss taking second place and Serbian Medical Chamber in third.

BELhospice raised 7.000 Euros from the fundraising event which will be used for the palliative care of terminally ill patients.

The BELhospice team want to thank all the football teams who took part in this tournament as well as to all supporters and companies that made this event possible.

Special acknowledgment is owed to the Serbian Ministry of Health, to our sponsor companies: Jugohe- mija, Coca Cola HBC and Sport Ce- ntre Kovilovo as well as to the Rotary movement in Serbia, espe- cially the Rotary Clubs Metropolitan and Singidunum.

We hope to see you all next year at second humanitarian 5-a-side football tournament "BELhospice 2010".
