Merck’s 5-a-side football team are the reigning champions of "BELhospice 2010".

This popular annual event was held on Saturday 29 May 2010 in Sport Centre Kovilovo, raising funds essential for the care of our terminally ill cancer patients in Belgrade.

Hyundai, Jugohemija, Roche, PharmaSwiss, Agro Bank, Crédit Agricole Bank, Telekom Srbija, Coca-Cola HBC, Actavis, Merck, Makler, KPMG and Ernst&Young each had participating teams. The teams were divided into four groups, and the best two teams out of each group qualified for the quarterfinals. 23 matches were played in total during the tournament.

The champions, Merck, won "BELhospice 2010" after playing some fantastic qualifying matches. A big semi-final clash with the defending champions, Jugohemija resulted in Merck getting through to the final.

The final match was between Merck and Actavis, who had knocked out PharmaSwiss, last year's finalist. The final was a top quality game, but at the final whistle, Merck proved the better side winning 2-0. Actavis were runners-up, and PharmaSwiss were placed third.

The Champion’s Cup and other valuable prizes were elegantly presented by BELhospices's nurses Ms. Bojana Kostovic and Mrs. Ivana Lapadatovic. A special Winner's Cup was presented by Mr. Milan Sotra, the president of Sport Centre Kovilovo.

With such fantastic support, 15,000.00 Euros was raised for BELhospice’s care of terminally ill cancer patients. BELhospice Director Dr Natasa Milicevic congratulated "BELhospice 2010" Champions Merck, and expressed her gratitude to all the teams and companies who participated in this tournament. She also thanked the Association of Football Referees of Belgrade, the Association of Serbian Managers, and the hosts of this tournament, Sport Centre Kovilovo. She said that together they had all made this event possible, enabling crucial palliative care for cancer patients.
