An advanced palliative care course was held
in Belgrade between 30th September to
4th October 2008 and involved doctors
and nurses who have finished the basic
palliative care course. This advanced
course took place at the “Prue Dufour”
Education Centre and was organised by
the BELhospice Centre for Palliative
Care and Palliative Medicine. The
Education Centre course hosted numerous
Serbian and British lecturers.
All the attendants had the opportunity
to share their experiences and expand
the knowledge through lectures by Dr
Yolande Saunders. Dr Saunders is a
specialist in palliative medicine
working at the Michael Sobell House
hospice, London, England. Other
lecturers included two specialist
palliative care nurses from the same
hospice, and Serbian specialists in
oncology, palliative care, psychology,
 social
work etc.
Attendants from primary, secondary and
tertiary health care systems had an
excellent opportunity to extend their
knowledge in palliative care and to open
new windows into the world of this
medical discipline. All the attendants
evaluated this course to be very useful
and helpful for their work with
terminally ill cancer patients.
